The Budget contained troublesome measures, putting a Minimum Essential Standard of Living further out of reach for many low income household types. At a time of increasing living costs, the failure to increase basic rates of social welfare in line with inflation is a de facto cut in living standards for social welfare dependent households. The VPSJ has conducted an impact analysis of Budget 2012. This details the cumulative impact of the increasing cost of a minimum essential standard of living and the cuts to secondary benefits, e.g. Fuel Allowance, the Back to School Clothing and Footwear Allowance, and the Rent Supplement. These unjust measures will now push many households into ever more dire circumstances.
