Some aspects of The Programme for Government that impact on the lives of people living in poverty
Submissions by the VPSJ
The Vincentian Partnership for Social Justice was among the 30 plus organisations which sent a submission to the Government requesting a reversal to the cut to the minimum wage. With the Coalition to Protect the Lowest Paid the VPSJ is very pleased that the new Government is committed to restoring the rate of €8.65 per hour. The facts and figures in the work of the VPSJ on the cost of a minimum essential standard of living showed clearly that the National Minimum Wage is not sufficient in itself to make possible a standard of living which meets at a minimum level a person’s physical, psychological and social needs. Further work needs to be done to ensure that all workers have a living wage.
